FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Sunday that they were firmly against a boycott of the Olympics and maintained that the Games will be a success. |
Blatter made the comments as he attended the men's and women's draw for the Beijing Olympic Games football tournament. Before the ceremony he held a press conference saying that this year marks the 100th anniversary for football joining the Olympics as a team sport, and reiterated FIFA's position on the Olympic boycott issue.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter, said, "FIFA's stand and FIFA's position in all questions of boycott has always been the same. Boycott will never add anything, and especially not to the sport. So we do not enter this discussion if there can be or maybe any boycott. It does not exist in the FIFA philosophy to boycott any competition. If we have an Olympic torch, and the Olympic torch represents a message and an ideal of the Olympic spirit, and if such a torch will not be able to be driven around the world, then something is wrong with the world and not with the Olympic torch."
