Ayegbeni Yakubu's spotkick put the Nigerians ahead in the 34th minute, but that lead had gone by half-time. In the third minute of injury time, Chelsea's Michael Essien connected with the impressive Sulley Muntari's cross to make it 1-1. Ghana's chances of further progress suffered a critical blow with the dismissal of John Mensah. But despite that numerical disadvantage, it was the Ghanaians who progress after Junior Agogo scored in the 83rd minute.

Junior Agogo, Ghana striker said "I'm just happy we're through to the next round you know. I'm absolutely knackered especially after going a goal down and having a man sent off in the second half. Mate, it's unbelievable."

Claude Le Roy, Ghana Head Coach said "A lot of people, they don't want to see us go very far because penalty, maybe, red card, maybe, it was not very clear on my side. I respect the decision but sometimes there is a penalty I never discuss but today I was not sure about the decision."

Cote D'Ivoire thrash Guinea 5-0

Meanwhile tournament favourites Cote D'Ivoire booked their place in the semi-finals, with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Guinea. They will face either the holders Egypt or Angola.
