Fabian Cancellara has made a thrilling sprint finish to win stage three of the Tour de France. The Swiss rider retains the yellow jersey after finishing the 236.5-kilometre trek from Belgium to Paris in six hours, 36 minutes and 15 seconds.

Tuesday's trek was the longest in this year's race.

Gert Steegmans couldn't match his heroics of the previous day.

The Belgian fell to the tarmac after a minor crash, 39 kilometres from the finish line.
