Defending champions China are in joint-second place in the pool at the Eight-Nation Invitational Tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Chinese Olympic football team were held to a goalless draw by hosts South Africa in their first group match.

The Chinese players were put to the test by local cold weather as snow had visited the city just the day before. But the defending champions quickly adapted to the environment, launching consistent attacks. Gao Lin had the best chance of the match in the 22nd minute when he latched on to a pass from Chen Tao, but his header was to find the post.

China continued to take control in the following minutes but were unable to convert any of their chances.

In the group standings, Botswana are currently top after toppling Cameroon in the other group match of the day.
