The 2007 Argentinian Clausura season came to a close on Sunday. With San Lorenzo already having been crowned as champions, Boca Juniors were looking to at least take the runners-up spot as they took on Lanus. Meanwhile Nueva Chicago's chances of playing top flight football next season were boosted following a convincing victory over Newell's Old Boys.
Lanus draw 0-0 with Boca Juniors
With San Lorenzo already having been crowned as Argentinian Clausura champions, an under-strength Boca Juniors were looking to guarantee the runners-up spot.
Boca's best chance of the first half arrived when Marcos Mondaini's shot was blocked by Lanus goalkeeper Carlos Bossio.
But Lanus responded, and should have taken a one-nil lead into the interval, but Pablo Migliore made an incredible save and catch.
The best chance of the second half went to Lanus but, once again, the woodwork denied the goal, resulting in a 0-0 finish.
Nueva Chicago beat Newell's Old Boys 2-0
Struggling Nueva Chicago made the visit to Rosario to take on Newell's Old Boys, and desperately needed all three points to avoid automatic relegation and seal a place in a play-off.
Things remained goalless at the break.
But the deadlock was eventually broken when Newell's goalkeeper failed to deal with a throw-in and Donda dutifully nodded a looping header into an empty net.
The lead was doubled just 12 minutes later and was again created from a set-piece with Lucio Filomeno giving Nueva a crucial two-goal cushion.
