Over to the Clausura championship in Argentina, San Lorenzo maintained their lead with a 1-0 away victory over Newell's Old Boys. And in another match, Boca Juniors kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 win at Quilmes.
San Lorenzo beat Old Boys to stay top
In their match against Newell's Old Boys, San Lorenzo got the breakthrough eight minutes from the end when Newell's gave away the ball just outside their own penalty area. Defender Sebastian Mendez took full advantage to score and lift the league leaders to their 11th win in 15 games.
Boca Juniors stay in title hunt
Following San Lorenzo's win in Newell, Boca Juniors needed a win against Quilmes to stay in touch with the league leaders.
In the 25th minute, Boca striker Bruno Marioni ran on to a clever pass from midfielder Sergio Orteman. Marioni's shot then ricocheted off the crossbar into the path of Jesus Datolo, who thundered the ball into the back of the net.
Five minutes later, Marioni's header found Rodrigo Palacio lurking on the edge of the penalty area. Palacio stepped around defender Diego Capria and struck the ball past goalkeeper Damian Grosso at the near post.
But the home side got themselves back into the match in the final minute of the first half. Defender Raul Saavedra provided the cross for Diego Torres, whose delicate touch gave Boca goalkeeper Mauricio Caranta no chance.
Boca held on to win 2-1, extending their unbeaten run to 11 games.
