Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympics

The Chinese government has unveiled plans to streamline entry and exit procedures during the Beijing Olympics. Customs officials say they will make it easier and faster for athletes, spectators and journalists to enter the country.

Olympic organizers and Customs officials announced their plans at a news conference on Wednesday.

They say the new measures will make entry and exit procedures more efficient, exempt Olympic equipment from tax, protect intellectual property rights and provide security.

Gong Zheng, Deputy Director of General Administration of China Customs, said "Under the principles of efficiency, we'll provide as much convenience as possible to foreign visitors before and during the Beijing Olympic Games."

China is also expanding and updating facilities at airports and ports to speed up customs services during the 2008 Olympics.
