Beijing isn't the only city to be counting down to a big event. With exactly 2,012 days to go before the 2012 London Olympics, organizers have promised the "greenest games" in history. They have also sought to allay concerns about the cost of the event, which has already soared since London won the bid in 2005.

Prime Minister Tony Blair, chairman of the London organizing committee Sebastian Coe, and Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell visited part of Stratford's Olympic Park site in a canal boat trip. They viewed the area where the Olympic stadium, aquatics centre and basketball venue will be built.

The Olympic organizers also took the opportunity to disclose London's environmental policy, which has sustainable transport, energy efficiency and minimizing waste as its three main goals.

But it's not only sustainability that the organizers have on their minds.

The British government hopes to have the Olympic budget finalized early this year, but costs have already risen since London won the bid in July 2005.

Some British lawmakers have speculated that the total cost could reach approximately 16 billion US dollars.

A government committee was set to release a report into the costs of the Games and how the event is to be funded.

The 2012 Games are scheduled for July 27th to August 12th.
