Catania Calcio are back on track again after a humiliating seven-nil loss to Roma. Catania Calcio beat Parma two-nil at the Stadio Angelo Massimino Stadium while Lazio overcame a determined Ascoli outfit to win three-one in an Italian Serie A fixture, played at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.

Enjoying their first season back in the Serie A, Catania were aiming to preserve their unbeaten home record, while struggling Parma were hoping to secure their first win on the road.

In the second half, Parma defender Antonio Borchetti fouled a Catania player in the box and conceded the penalty.

Gionathan Spinesi stepped up to the spot and confidently slotted the ball home to give the hosts a one-nil lead in the 67th minute.

The home side then doubled their lead with five minutes remaining when, despite a series of passing errors, Fabio Caserta blasted the ball between two defenders to seal the victory.

The result lifts Catania from ninth to sixth in the serie A table, while Parma lie 16th, with just two league victories this season so far.

The home side Lazio got the start they wanted, for Lazio beat Ascoli 3-1.

A free-kick from deep found its way to Stefano Mauri at the far post and his shot was bundled in by Manuel Belleri, who was lurking close to the Ascoli goalline.

But the Ascoli players hit back to level the game.

A smart free-kick routine saw the ball played out to Michelangelo Minieri on the right flank and he fired the ball into the Lazio penalty area, only to see Mauri stick his leg out and deflect the ball into his own net.

It took Lazio less than eight minutes to take the lead once again. Pandev picked up the ball on the right flank and beat both Simone Pesce and Valentin Vasile Nastase, before slotting past Gianluca Pagliuca in the Ascoli goal.

Lazio preserved their two-one lead into the second half and made Ascoli pay with a crucial goal in the 84th minute.

Tommaso Rocchi beat his man, slipped the ball across goal and replacement Pasquale Foggia was on hand to make it three-one.
