Hoping to blunt the momentum of increasingly vocal critics, US President, Barack Obama, has set out to take back control of the public debate on health reform.

US President Barack Obama urged the American people not to listen to those he claims are trying to scare and mislead the public. He told a town hall meeting in New Hampshire.

Barack Obama, US President, said, "For all the scare tactics out there, what is truly scary, what is truly risky, is if we do nothing."

He took aim at critics, and poked fun at what he called their misinformation campaign and fear tactics.

Barack Obama, US President, said, "Where we disagree, let's disagree over things that are real. Not these wild misrepresentations to anything that has actually been proposed. Because the way politics works sometimes is that people who want to keep things the easy they will try to scare the heck out of folks and they'll create bogeymen out there that just are not real."

Across the country, town hall meetings about healthcare have turned into yelling matches.

Proponents say the healthcare overhaul will force insurance companies to cover individuals regardless of pre-existing conditions. Healthcare costs are creating a drag on middle-class families and the economy as a whole.
