Overseas scholars, officials strongly denounce riot in Urumqi

Overseas scholars and officials have strongly denounced the July 5th riot in Urumqi, the capital of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. They have also expressed their support for the measures taken by the Chinese government to maintain social order and stability.

Syrian ambassador to China, Khalaf Al-Jarad says Syria respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. It also supports the Chinese government taking appropriate and necessary measures to protect safety, stability and public order in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.

A researcher with a humanities institute in Gabon, Bernard Boussougou Moungonga says he backs the Chinese government's measures to maintain stability in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Moungonga condemns the separatist forces outside China for attempting to split China, adding that these schemes will fail.

A senior researcher with the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yakov Berger says the July 5th violence in Urumqi of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region seriously affected the stability of the region. And that the Chinese government's measures to maintain social order are appropriate.
