A magnitude 6 earthquake has hit southwest China's Yunnan Province, killing one person and injuring more than 300.

The quake occurred Thursday evening at a depth of about ten kilometers. The epicenter was in Yao'an County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Thirty people are suffering from severe injuries. Over ten thousand houses have collapsed and more than thirty thousand others are damaged. Several aftershocks have occurred, prompting locals to gather outside.
Officials are distributing tents, medicines and food. Two working teams are on their way, one headed by the Yunnan governor and the other by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. More than 600 police officers have also been dispatched.
