The death toll from Sunday evening's riot in Urumqi, capital of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has risen to 156.

Over 1,000 people were wounded. Sunday's deadly violence also ravaged the city of Urumqi and affected people's lives.

According to police, rioters burned more than 260 motor vehicles, including 190 buses, at least 10 taxis and two police cars. A preliminary investigation found over two-hundred shops and 14 homes were also destroyed.

Police say they have so far arrested 1,434 suspects in connection with the deadly riot.
