In Handan city of Hebei province, a cold front from southern China has helped cool the city, which has registered temperatures of more than 40 degrees Celsius for a few days straight.

Meanwhile, many areas in Shanxi province have downgraded their warning levels as the recent heat wave begins to weaken. People living in the country's north are hoping rainfall will come and bring some relief, while southern China is hoping for the opposite. Heavy rains have been wreaking havoc in Guizhou province for days. Precipitation in Jinping county hit neary 220 millimeters on Friday alone. And in Yunnan province, the provincial meteorological station is warning of more rainy days to come.
