US President Barack Obama is now in the eastern German city of Dresden as he kicks off a 24-hour visit to the country.

This is Obama's second trip to Germany as President in nine weeks. He's scheduled to tour Dresden, which was rebuilt after being destroyed by heavy bombing during World War Two.

He will also pay his respects at the former Nazi concentration camp of Buchenwald and visit injured soldiers in a US military hospital in Landstuhl.

Following the German trip, the US president will travel to France to attend ceremonies in Normandy marking the 65th anniversary of the Allied D-Day landings.
