The city of Arles is associated with one of the greatest painters mankind has ever produced – Vincent Van Gogh. In the art world, Van Gogh’s work is accorded near-sacred status.

Several of his paintings are among the most expensive ever sold. Well, his Arles period, from February 1888 to May 1889, coincided with a particularly important time in his career. There he created a large body of work, much of it in his characteristic bold colours and with his distinctive impressionist style.
