In referring to Venice, the renowned Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni said: “All the world’s cities are similar to each other in one way or another, but this place is completely different from any other.”

Well, anyone who ever visits Venice will find it difficult to disagree with this remark. For one thing, there are hardly any cars or even bicycles in Venice.
