Of all the cities that have played host to the Olympic Games, probably the youngest is Los Angeles. Yet, despite its relative youth, Los Angeles is a world centre of culture, technology, the media, business, and international trade. Los Angeles also leads the world in the production of popular entertainment — motion pictures, television, the internet, video games and recorded music.

The Los Angeles metropolitan area is home to nearly 12.9 million people. They hail originally from all over the globe and speak 224 different languages. If there’s one thing that binds all these people together, it’s their local basketball team; the Lakers.
Such was the excitement the victory provoked across the country, that the following year a television series was broadcast, based on it. The American media claimed that the match was the most important – in any sport – in the 20th century.
