Within Rome there lies the independent State of Vatican City, and together they have more than 700 churches and 330 monasteries. Rome is celebrated also for its high fashion, opera and football, as well as for its delicious cuisine. Today, we will return to Rome’s imperial past, to investigate the life of an ancient gladiator.

The discovery of the ancient ruins of Pompeii provided vital information about the ancient gladiators. A gladiators’ campsite was even uncovered, with scattered helmets, shields and swords, along with stone carvings describing gladiatorial combat.
