The first maps of China were produced in the Western Han Dynasty, two thousand years ago. Based on rough observations and using the most basic instruments, they were very primitive affairs. Even as late as the 1980s, maps in China were still hand-drawn. Then came the digital age, when maps became not only more precise, but also more graphic.
