The Largest Stone Dragon in the World

In September 2002, according to the expert’s conclusion, a group of ancient stone dragons were unearthed from the Sleeping Dragon Slope in Jiangyao Village of Handan City in Hebei Province, China. Among them the largest stone dragon is about 369 m in length, 2.5 m in height and 4.6 m in width. A section of it unearthed amounts to 100 m in length. The experts group from the State Research Institute of Cultural Relic confirmed that the huge stone dragon was the largest, oldest and most complicated in the world.

  There are 4 uncovered or partly exposed small stone dragons by the huge stone dragon. A dragon with two heads is in the south of it, 3 small ones are in the north of it. And there are also stone fishes, snakes and other small dragons by the huge stone dragon.

  The group of stone dragons is related to the idioms, myths and folk legends which are very popular among the people in Handan City. At that year, upon hearing the news, Chen Maocai, a famous calligrapher of Hebei Province, China wrote happily: “The largest dragon in the world.”
