One's standards for an ideal life change as one grows older.

My father hoped I'd be a scientist.

He'd buy me a lot of science magazines when I was young.

He took me to Beijing when I was 6 or 7. We didn't play much.

When he saw a telescope for observing sunspots he paid a lot so that I could look through it.

Later, he took me to the Palace for Science Promotion.

He was keen to make me a scientist. Hence my name, Chen Tianjia.

When we were taking the National College Entrance Exam,

we had six choices of what to study.

For five of them, I entered physics, but I failed with them all.

You see, as an undergraduate, I'm just what you see now.

What a poor situation.

After the game, I felt relaxed. I had no passion left.

My dream is to own a single-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of the city where there are not too many people and not too few.

It'll have an air-conditioner, a TV set, and a computer.

That'd be fine.

I'd live by myself, with a dog or a cat.

All I'd do every day would be surf the Internet or chat online.

Occasionally I'd meet friends I'd made onlinefor drinks, go to parties or play online games.

Then every evening, I'd walk my dog or cat.

That sounds fantastic.

How can I survive? I don't have enough money.

My living standard's higher than the others'.

In what ways is yours higher?

You see this shirt? It cost a fortune!

How much?

500 yuan.

At college, whenever I went shopping, I'd head to the shopping areas for salaried workers.

That was when I was at college. Now I don't, because I don't have any money.

You seem pretty vain.

You have many hopes when you're young, and many new things you want to try.

The most important thing in life is to realize your value.

What is your potential?

If you can make full use of it in life, you'll have lived a good life.

At least a happy life, with no regrets.

I have a shortcoming. I'm over-confident.

Sometimes I don't know if it's conceit or confidence.

I always think I'm clever or good in some other ways.

But again I'm afraid that I'm not as clever as I imagined.

I'm afraid I'll be frustrated.

So I don't know what I can become if I study.

My first five-year plan is to have a go at IELTS, to prove my ability.

That seems a very long way.

Yes, over 2,900 numbers.

There are still 1,000 to go.

I have a detailed plan for next year. I'll try to take the exam for a custom declarer.

I must pass it. I must make it.

And also English, in the first or second half of 2008, I must learn English properly.

By 2008, I'll at least be fluent and confidentin talking with foreigners in English.
