Huizhou was not just home to some of China’s best writers. Its scenery was the inspiration for many of Chinese literature’s best-loved poems. Writers and scholars in ancient China traveled to Huizhou to visit these sites and gain inspiration for their own work. Even in modern times, the area’s history has attracted famous writers. Huizhou is littered with inscriptions by famous men of letters throughout the ages.
Huizhou produced many outstanding people in China’s history. Their contributions cover many fields. Its philosophers, businessmen, artists and writers have enriched the country’s cultural life. These days, there is no province named Huizhou. Its territory now belongs to Anhui and Jiangsu provinces. But the region is rich in cultural and artistic artifacts from the past. Its influence in modern times was also far-reaching. After the fall of the Qing dynasty, writers continued to draw inspiration from Huizhou’s natural beauty. The period between the last dynasty and the founding of the People’s Republic. saw tensions between reformers and revolutionaries. Thinkers from Huizhou mostly promoted reform, related to the area’s reputation as the stronghold of Confucianism.
