Special Report: Cross-Straits Forum |
Intro:
Washington and Tokyo may follow the development across the Taiwan Straits with mixed feeling. Taipei and Beijing are getting closer this past week as KMT,the ruling party in Taiwan, comes over to address further economic and trade collaboration in times of financial crisis.
But the most dramatic ice-breaking event would be the first tour of the mainland by Ms.Chen Ju,mayor of Gao Xiong city of southern Taiwan. She is the highest ranking official of the pro-independence DPP who has ever visited the mainland.
To take a closer look at the strong Mao Zhongqun momentum of the cross-straits integration,we are joined here by Mr.Tao Wenzhao, senior research fellow of CASS and Mr.Gregory Yingnien Tsang, former chairman of the Seattle Chapter of the National Association of Chinese Americans. In a few minutes we shall be talking to Joanna Lei Qian, former Taiwan legislator via telephone.
