Dialogue 09/05/22 China seek to mend fences with EU

Intro:

Premier Wen Jiabao dismissed the notion of Group of Two as groundless and reiterated the importance of multilateralism in shaping the international economic and political order. Premier Wen says that it is impossible for a few major powers to govern the whole world. This Chinese premier said that China remains a developing country and attaches great importance to the strategic implications of the EU-China partnership.

The Europeans however felt surprised and humiliated last year when Beijing decided unilaterally to postpone the schedule summit due to the planned meeting between French President Nicholar Sarkozy and the Dalai Lama. They complained that unless the EU gets united and adopt a tough interest-based approach in dealing with China，no serious progress could be made in what some would call over summitry. These critics are afraid that China treats the EU with diplomatic contempt while enjoying honeymoon with the US.
