Intro:
Hello and welcome to Dialogue, I'm Yang rui in Beijing. Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa said in a nationally televised speech that a total battlefield victory has been achieved against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
The President said to the parliament that the decades long civil war which had split the island nation has formally been brought to an end. The president has reached out to the Tamil minority as well, calling for a homegrown solution to the ethnic and religious conflicts in the post war reconstruction.
But broad distrust between ethnic communities following a quarter century of warfare could make it difficult for President Mahinda Rajapaksa to accomplish that goal.
