Live from Beijing, I am your host Tian Wei. And this is "Voices and Votes" on CCTV International.Pubic health, rural areas, urban community services and basic medical insurance...All of these are on the list which Chinese Central government, at this year's National People's Congress, has pledged to bring changes to, in an effort to accelerate the country's healthcare reform. 850 billion yuan is the budget for those changes by the year 2011.
How to understand the urgency of this reform? More importantly, how likely would the reform benefit ordinary people in China? I am joined by: Prof. Gordon Liu form Guanghua Management School, Peking University and Prof. Yang Yansui from Tsinghua University. Before today's program, I went on an investigation assignment in one of the most popular hospitals in Beijing to see what exactly is going on there.
