Special Report: 2009 NPC & CPPCC Sessions
Background Report:
Intro:
Hello, I am Yang Rui with Voices and Votes broadcasting live from Beijing. In day two of our special coverage on the country's annual session of political consultation, we shall focus on the worst drought in 50 years, water shortage, water pollution, poor water rights administration as well as weak water demand control in the first half of the program.
The environmental degradation arising from China's rapid growth is part of the picture of global warming as ozone depletion needs to be tackled through global coordination. In times of crisis when extreme weather conditions increase sharply, law makers and political advisors of China try to protect their common homeland for our children and children's children.
Here in the studio we are joined live by Mr. Ma Jun, director of the Institute for public and environmental affairs and Ms. Wu Changhua, China CEO of the Climate Group. After the short break, we shall be talking to Mr. Carter Brandon, lead environmental specialist of World Bank China Office in a telephone interview.
