Special Report: President Hu visits 5 nations
Background Report:
Intro:
Hello, I am Yang Rui reporting live. President Hu Jintao wraps up his tour of Saudi Arabia and four African countries on Tuesday. Whatever China does in Africa would generate headlines for Europeans. Their vigilance against the growing presence of China in this developing continent has caused extensive debates about the mode of Chinese development.
The agenda of President Hu Jintao seems to have taken this into consideration since all of the four African nations are poor in natural resources. This is unusual, considering the challenges that China is facing in the midst of a devastating financial crisis. But Beijing says it will honor its commitment implied in the joint declarations of the forum of China-African Cooperation. The meeting gathered leaders from 48 African countries out of 53. 46 years ago, late Premier Zhou Enlai won the respect and friendship of Africa with a sweeping ten-nation tour.
How different is the African policy of China from that in the early 1960s? How shall we assess the outcome of President Hu Jintao's journey of cooperation this time around? We are joined here by Mr. Gao Zhikai, and later on Mr. Moumouni, China-Africa Expert
