The American Journalist Edgar Snow introduced the Chinese red army to the rest of the world with Red Star over China. He interviewed Mao Testung and his comrades right here. Seventy years ago, the strategic Long March ended in this place and saved the red army from the devastating encirclement campaigns of the Kuomintang army. A united Front was formed in 1937 to fight the Japanese aggression. Headquartered in Yan’an, the red army began its counter-offensive ad took over the power in 1949. Today we traveled to Yan’an to mark the70th anniversary of the long March to draw a draw a paralled comparison between the historic Long March and the modernization campaign that kicked off three decades ago.
