While Chinese leaders themselves are trying hard to set a course for its own development, some oversea economists and policy-makers have generalized China's mode of development into a consensus. But the Chinese argue that their mode can not be called a consensus and that its experiences cannot be universally applicable. Neither does China want to compete with the Washington consensus which was first made public in the 1990s.

Joshua Cooper Ramo, an American professor at Tsinghua University and former managing editor of the Time magazine, capture the attention of Chinese scholars when his Beijing Consensus was first put forward. Today we are pleased to have him on this program to paraphase his ideas and reasons behind his discourse on the Beijing Consensus.
