The opening ceremony of the 10th National People鈥檚 Congress got off to a pretty mild start this morning in Beijing. The key words in Premier Wen Jiabao鈥檚 work report are about harmonious and stable. Some 2000-odd delegates from around the country come to the capital to voice their concerns about the future and well being of the nation. And indeed this government and its new leadership are confronted with serious challenges such as a possible rebound in fixed asset investment, excessive demand for energy and transportation, the reduction of farmers鈥burden, greater urgency for investing more in rural education and medical care and, above all, rampant corruption.
