Hong Kong has opened celebrations for the 60th birthday of the People's Republic of China. "My Motherland and I - the Third Culture Week of Chinese Nationalities" marks the beginning of a series of activities there.

More than 400 teenagers, representing minorities from the Chinese mainland, presented a gala to Hong Kong residents. Action star Jackie Chan and Chinese mainland diva Liu Yuanyuan led over thirty thousand youngsters as they sang the 60th birthday theme song: the "Nation". Both Chan and Liu were assigned as ambassadors for the celebrations. The "Nation" pays homage to the People's Republic of China on its anniversary. The song has topped almost all the music charts in China and, it is certain to play a part in the National Day celebrations, which fall on October 1st.
