Guangdong Opera, once one of the staples of southern China's cultural life, still has numerous fans. In recent decades the entertainment tradition has been less available, as pop culture became dominant.

But now opera fans in Guangxi's Nanning city can again regularly enjoy its charms. At the Xinhui Library, a local cultural center, the Nanning Guangdong Opera Troupe offers a wide repertoire of traditional shows.

In addition to opera, the organizers also have performances of acrobatics, feats of strength, puppet shows, and other folk performing arts.

Guangdong opera originated in the 13th century. It is popular in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and among Chinese people overseas.
