The joint exhibition showcases over 200 new year paintings created by dozens of masters from Mianzhu and Suzhou. The works from Sichuan are adapted from local folklore, and the paintings produced in Taohuawu impress visitors with vivid colors.

A collaborative work called "Harmony" attracts the most attention. The artists from Mianzhu also created a painting to express their appreciation for the support people in Suzhou offered after the May 12th Earthquake.

Both originated at the end of the Ming Dynasty and flourished during the Qing. The Mianzhu and Suzhou Taohuawu new year paintings were listed as National Intangible Culture Heritages in 2006. The Sichuan earthquake severely damaged the Mianzhu crafts industry, and that's why Suzhou City has hosted the joint exhibition. After the show, Suzhou will invest 30 million yuan, or 4 million US Dollars to help build a workshop village in Mianzhu. The village will include tourism, production and internship, and the artists will be assembled to revive the traditional art. It's expected to be complete by the end of this year. And a New Year Painting museum is being planned.

The event will run for one month in Suzhou city. The participating artists will donate their works for an auction. And all the proceeds will be donated to the people in quake-hit Mianzhu County.
