The Potala Palace is one of the most famous features of Tibet. The palace has a long history and a rich collection of religious relics. Qiangba Gesang, the director of the management department of the Potala Palace is one of the royal guardians.

As the first rays of sunshine falls on the Potala Palace, Qiangba Gesang starts his work. The life-long connection he has with the sacred Potala Palace started when he was a boy. Because his uncle, a monk, also worked there, Gesang was familiar with the palace when he was young.

Qiangba Gesang, the director of the management department of the Potala Palace said, "When I was a boy, every hall of the palace was open to visitors. I came almost every day. I knew well the outside but I was not up on the inside of the rooms."

Mysterious and spectacular is how Gesang describes his childhood memories of the Potala Palace. During his 20 years of working there he has experienced two of the biggest renovations of the Potala palace. As reward for his hard work and dedication, he was promoted to become a director.

Qiangba Gesang said, "All the antiques are national treasures. Many of them were in disorder. The classification took three years. Then the next step was to list them before they were collected in different rooms."
