The 35-meter high Black Pagoda has more than 90,000 bulbs inside which make the pagoda emit warm yellow light. While the 41-meter high White Pagoda has been outfitted with a 1900-meter luminous zone which consists of 30 light bulbs per meter.

The light bulbs installed on these historic pagodas cost nearly one million yuan, or around 146,000 US dollars.

The black pagaoda was originally built in 799, and was rebuilt in 936.

The White Pagoda, originally built in 905, was 67 meters high before it collapsed in 1534. It was rebuilt 14 years later.
