It was an unusual runway show at this year's Beijing Fashion Week. Elements of China in the 1960s and 70s, such as the star on hats, and military uniforms, were seen on the catwalk. These ideas all came from Chen Juanhong, a supermodel-turned-designer.

Chen Juanhong, supermodel-turned-designer, said, " There were three children in my family, and all are very tall. My two brothers are 1.85 meters, and I'm 1.79. So we were at a disadvantage when using the ration coupons because we consumed more."

Li Guyi, artist, said, "You had to have coupons for everything you needed back then. And clothes were usually worn for a long time before they were too worn-out."
