Special Report:   Shenzhou-7 Manned Space Flight

The world will turn its eyes towards China again as its third manned spacecraft is launched. Outer space has long been a source of inspiration for filmmakers. Long before humans first sent astronauts into space, the film "A Trip to the Moon" shot as early as 1902 foresaw space travel. Since then, space movies have always been popular and have ignited people's passion to discover more about outer space. In today's "Spotlight" we take a look at some movies about space travel.

Movie about space travel

The 1983 film "The Right Stuff" is based on the real story of the first American astronauts to go into space. After World War Two, the US and the former Soviet Union had competing space programs. While an American pilot broke the sound barrier for the first time ever, the Soviet Union sent the first human being into outer space. NASA chose seven astronauts to take part in the first US manned space flight. The movie tells how the seven men knew the risks involved, but eagerly took the risk and completed their mission. They were made of the "right stuff". The film won the nod for best film at the 1984 Oscars and four technical awards.
