Cool vistas and cultural events are not all that's happening for the holidays, China's successful Shenzhou-7 space mission has touched off a space craze among young people in the nation. A children's science show entitled "Colorful Star" premiered at the Beijing planetarium on Wednesday.

"Colorful Star" is a story about probing the mysteries of Space. It is a youthful perspective connecting astronomical knowledge to everyday life.

Children learn about astronomy from the event -- whose primary purpose is to arouse greater interest among young people in astronomy and the broader field of Science.

Zhu Jin, Curator of Beijing Planetarium, said, "The United Nations has just announced that 2009 will be the year of Astronomy. There'll be eleven global projects during the year. One is to enlighten children about astronomy. This show is one of our efforts to help broaden the knowledge of children here. "

The play is open free of charge. The Beijing Planetarium plans to stage a hundred episodes over the next three years. Target audiences are children between the ages of four and six.
