The Tujia have evolved a long and colourful cultural tradition. Dancing stands out. They dance at festivals celebrating, the harvest; they dance at religious rites meant to bring prosperity. They dance for many reasons.
Now, the time honoured traditions of the Tujia are to be preserved in a museum dedicated to their culture.
In Chongqing Municipality, construction is underway. This is the initial phase of a project with an investment of up to 20 million yuan. The design in based on an existing community of the Tujia. When complete, the museum will contain nearly 20 old-style stilt houses.
Exhibits will touch on all aspects of the Tujia culture. Construction is slated to be complete before the end of the year.
