Must-see places include ancient Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. Thanks to the careful protection of the governments at various levels, these ancient temples remain well preserved. In recent years, the central government has invested considerable funds to renovate these edifices that date back hundreds of years. The provincial government has also undertaken complete or partial renovation of the Tibetan Buddhist temples in Qinghai.

Five ancient Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and other ancient structures of Tibetan Buddhism are on the state-level Cultural Relics Protection List. 50 ancient monasteries and structures are cited on the provincial list of protected sites.
