Spring has brought peony plants into full bloom in Changshu, east China's Jiangsu Province. The 17th Changshu Peony Flower Festival started the weekend. The annual fragrance feast has become a staple ingredient for local tourism.

Walking around the Shanghu Lake park, people are immersed in an ocean of blossoming peony plants. More than 200 species of peony flowers are from the four major peony resources in China. They are Luoyang in Henan, Heze in Shandong, Pengzhou in Sichuan and Changshu in Jiangsu. The four have organized a "Going With Peony Flowers" Tourism Union to promote the noble flower.

Over ten thousand people attended the opening day of the festival, which also helped inaugurate the Changshu Tourism Festival. Activities such as wedding ceremonies, dragon boats and photo competitions are expected to draw visitors from far and wide over the coming weeks.
