A large evening gala was held last weekend in the city of Taichung. Artists from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan joined hands to celebrate Mazu, one of the most worshipped deities in Taiwan.

A large evening gala was held last weekend in the city of Taichung.

The curtain on the evening rose to the deafening sound of drums. The whole gala was divided into three parts, re-creating legendary scenes of Mazu providing assistance to generations of people.

Artists including A-shin, Elva Siao, Jasmine Leung, S-H-E and Tengger took the stage in turn to treat the audience with their golden hits. The evening reached its climax when performers and thousands of gala-goers joined hands singing the song "The Light of Mazu".

An audience member said, "Mazu will be happy if she sees artists from both sides of the straits collaborating in this kind of cultural activity."

Mazu is worshipped as the Goddess of the Sea, who helps extricate the poor from difficult situations and brings prosperity to the people in every generation.
