The public got its first look at the lighting project, Wednesday at an exhibition in Hangzhou. Photos and graphics illustrating the plans draw local people, eager to catch a glimpse of their city's future. But visitors from afar also come to view what is to become the newest attraction, to one of China's most elegant cities.

Duan Qiao, is a well-known bridge across West Lake. Its name translates literally as "Broken Bridge." The setting is described in fairy tales as the place where the Lady of the White Serpent meets her prince charming. The new lighting project tailors the setting to ensure the Broken Bridge is fully illuminated at night -- for the storied couple to return. Evening strollers who come to witness the encounter will read the ancient poetry inscribed on the bridge.
