Special Report:   2008 Olympics Countdown

As people get ready to spread out all across China for Golden week. Enthusiasm for the 2008 Beijing Olympics is spreading among Chinese all over the world. The happy ambience of the games has spread to Toronto, Canada, with it's large Chinese community. This year's Toronto Dragon Festival has adopted the theme, "the Beijing Olympics Shine On Toronto".

Fuwa, the 2008 Olympic Mascots stole the show during the kick off parade. The five cartoon figures, presented by the China National Tourism Bureau serve as a material reflection of the friendly ties between Beijing and Toronto.

Traditional Chinese performances, including kungfu, the dragon dance and the face-changing show earned big ovations from spectators.

A spectator said, "Though we live abroad, we care about what happens in the home country. The Olympics are a big event for Chinese everywhere. We're looking forward to the games, and wish for great success."

The Dragon Festival, held around the time of Mid-Autumn festival each year is a major event in Toronto promoting traditional Chinese culture. This year more than 30 thousand local residents and tourists came to join the fun.
