So at the top of the show we looked forward to the coming year and final preparations for the Beijing Olympics. Now we're going to take a look back at one of the world's most ancient social and cultural phenomena.

China erupted in pride and exuberance with the announcement that Beijing was chosen as the site for the 2008 Olympics.

Beijing Mayor, Wang Qishan took the Olympic flag, from Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee, at the conclusion of the 2004 Athens Olympics.

A child, representing the Future, drawing the Flame kindled a flower bulb in the hand of a Chinese child.

Then, as at the conclusion of each Olympiad: - the Olympic flame was extinguished, symbolizing the hope for greater achievement, a better and more exciting Olympic Games next time. The moment was effervescent for the people of China.
