Special Report:   80th Anniversary of PLA

August 8th marks an important milestone in the Olympic countdown, but for China, there's another important milestone in August.

Movies and TV series dedicated to the 80th anniversary of China's People's Liberation Army are everywhere. One film stands out: "The First of August". It recalls the 1927 uprising in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi province. That uprising marked the birth of the PLA. It's the opening flick for the film expo observing the anniversary across China.

Crew members of "The First of August" attended the premiere July 31st. Hong Kong actor Ray Lui was excited about his role as general Ye Ting. For him it was a dream role.

Ray Lui, actor of "The First of August", said, "I was so excited when I first put on the uniform. I had dreamed to be a soldier since childhood. This time Bayi film studio gave me this opportunity to act as a general! It's a very, very exciting and very very honorable thing for me!"

Ray Lui had his first experience putting on a uniform. But mainland actor Hou Yong, was a soldier for twenty years, so as the saying goes, he'd been there and done that. He plays general He Long in the movie.
