Chinese cities are endeavoring to improve their energy efficiency.
Beijing's municipal government announced on Monday that only energy and water saving products, such as computers, air-conditioners and printing machines, will be considered for government purchase in the future.
An energy-saving inspection committee, consisting of 22 police officers, was established on the same day, as a part of Beijing's battle to reduce energy consumption. First on their agenda are big air conditioner users, such as office buildings, hotels, shopping malls and supermarkets. They will make sure that the temperature of their air-conditioners is kept no lower than the 26 degrees Celsius level required by the State Council.
Beijing Consumer's Association also recently published a letter to the public, appealing for them to change bad habits and to save electricity and water where possible.
An energy-saving exhibition, which promotes energy saving and environmental protection was also launched on Tuesday morning at a theme park in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
The exhibition features displays on "energy saving, emission reduction and scientific developments". Local citizens are able to view new energy-saving products for free, and take part in interactive activities such as an old-for-new exchange of electronic wares.
