Special Report:   Cultural Heritage Day

The search for the last remaining trace of authentic folk culture has led us to the country's nooks and crannies, where just about everyone is an artist.

This is "Lang-De-Shang-Zhai", a small ethnic Miao village tucked in the wrinkles of mountain in Southwestern China's Guizhou Province.

At seventy-six years old, Wu Nawang sometimes finds herself battling her blurring vision to thread a needle. So instead, she braids several threads into one, for use by her daughter-in-law.

But it's no mean feat. The job requires a dexterity that could only be attained by decades of training.

And the old lady must have be reminded, from time to time, of her own hard-working youth by the sight of her daughter-in-law, at one with her embroidery.
